Stew Hen Bundle – Deeply Nourishing, Rich, and Time-Tested
Our Stew Hen Bundle includes 3 whole stew hens—retired laying hens that spent their lives out on pasture.
These birds are not your typical chicken. They’ve lived longer, moved more, and developed a depth of flavor you simply can’t get from a young broiler.
Slow-cook them, and you’ll understand why generations before us relied on stew hens as a staple in the kitchen.
They are the foundation of a truly rich, deeply nourishing broth—perfect for soups, stews, and slow meals that feed more than just hunger.
Raised on Big Island pasture with no hormones, antibiotics, or vaccines.
Why Choose Stew Hens?
- Unmatched Flavor: Stew hens create a darker, more complex broth with a full-bodied chicken flavor that stands on its own. This is the kind of broth that turns a simple soup into something memorable.
- Naturally Rich in Collagen: Because these hens are older, their bones and connective tissue produce a gelatin-rich broth that supports joint health, gut health, and overall nourishment.
- Raised the Right Way: Our hens are pasture-raised, living naturally on the land—not confined or rushed. What they eat and how they live shows up directly in the quality of your broth.
- Built for Slow Cooking: These birds are best prepared low and slow. Simmer for several hours to unlock their full potential—tender meat and a broth that gels beautifully.

Freezer space & storage tips
Freezer space & storage tips
How much space do I need?
A solid rule of thumb is 1 cubic foot of freezer space = about 35–40 lbs of packaged meat.
Storage best practices (easy wins):
Keep your freezer at 0°F / -18°C.
Freeze it fast: get everything into the freezer the same day you receive it.
Organize by type (ground / roasts / steaks) so you’re not digging with the door open.
Use a small bin or basket for “use first” items.
Write the date received on the outside if you want quick rotation.
How long will it last?
If it stays frozen solid, it’s safe for a long time. Quality is best when you rotate through it within 6–12 months.

FAQ
FAQ
Can I request specific cuts?
We keep shares consistent for everyone, so we can’t guarantee special requests. If you leave a note at checkout, we’ll do our best when it’s possible.
How is the beef packaged?
Everything is vacuum-sealed and labeled. It’s freezer-ready and easy to organize.
Where is pickup?
Pickup is at the farm on the Hiloside of the island, in Pepeekeo/Honomu. About a week before pickup, we’ll email an online sign-up sheet so you can choose your pickup time.
Can I send someone else to pick up for me?
Yes. Just forward them your pickup details and have them give your name at pickup.
What if I add other items to my order?
We’ll bundle everything together so it’s ready/shipped on the Pickup/Ship Date you selected—as long as those add-on items are available for that same date. If something has a different harvest or processing timeline (like a half pork share), it may need a later pickup/ship date. If that happens, we’ll reach out with options (move the date, split the order, or swap the add-on).
Is the beef fresh or frozen?
All meat is frozen.
