The Farm
About Sugar Hill Farmstead
Nestled on the lush Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, Sugar Hill Farmstead is a shining example of regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming practices. When we purchased the land, it bore the marks of intensive agriculture, having been heavily tilled and fertilized for crops like sweet potatoes and ginger. Starting with little infrastructure, we embraced the challenge of transforming the property into a thriving, eco-friendly farm.
Through the implementation of rotational grazing patterns for our cattle, sheep, pigs, and chickens, we revitalized the soil and fostered vibrant, nutrient-rich pastures in just a year. Our commitment to sustainable and regenerative farming led us to partner with the NRCS for conservation grants, culminating in being recognized as the Hamakua District Farmer/Rancher of the Year by the USDA in 2023.
We proudly operate 100% off-grid, harnessing the power of solar energy, supplemented by wind power when needed. Our water supply is sourced from rainwater catchment, which is carefully treated on-site, and our state-of-the-art composting facility minimizes waste, contributing to a closed-loop farming system.
